“We will be able to trigger actions and predict future events more accurately...”
Jeremy Sneller is a leader with strong roots in analytics, mobile and communication technology.
RI: What motivates you to innovate in your industry?
I believe it’s in my genes, all of my career I have innovated in some way, challenging the way we do things and promote and drive a different way - whether it be taking standalone tills in retail and innovating with retailers to install integrated Epos scanning solutions or transitioning large mainframe computers to small distributed PC’s and more recently face recognition technology used in Government for National Security (Border and Passport control) to building business apps using the same technology for large commercial organisations. I love change, promoting and driving through new ways of doing things.
RI: What or who inspires you?
Bill Gates early in my career but more recently Elon Musk as he is a massive catalyst for change and doesn’t abide by the rules and pressures of conforming today but goes out, takes risks and seeks to challenge the traditional ways of doing things..
RI: What industry challenge was the biggest to you in the last few years?
Funding the potential high growth of the opportunity whilst continuing to develop the business.
RI: How did you overcome it?
Explored the various funding options available, pulled together a talented management team, put together a compelling business plan and persuaded a number of individuals to invest in us to grow the company and give them a healthy return on their money in the future.
RI: What industry challenge would you most like to solve?
Continuous power for mobile phones. Passenger drone flights - making travel more efficient and maximising the space directly above us.
RI: What’s the best piece of advice you could give to a fresh innovator starting out in your industry?
Do something before it’s too late. If you’ve got a good idea don’t wait until you haven’t the health, will power, inclination and drive to do it – explore it now! Don’t ever get to the point of saying “if only I…..”
RI: Do you have any particular routines that help you find inspiration?
Whilst I don’t have any particular routines, living in Cornwall and doing business mostly out of the County means I spend a lot of time driving thousands of miles each year in my car and this I find allows me to do a lot of creative thinking; travelling though beautiful scenery and in all weathers.
RI: What does the future hold for your business? What products or innovations do you have in the pipeline?
The future looks incredibly bright for TouchByte as Face Recognition is becoming a way of life. You unlock your phone with you face, why not your car, your office or your home. Why not travel with your face as your ticket and pay for items with your face as your payment method.
RI: What technologies do you think will shape the future of your industry?
AI (Artificial Intelligence) as algorithms get cleverer, faster more accurate and integrated into other devices (internet of things (IOT)) together with other software apps, we will be able to trigger actions and predict future events more accurately based on historical facts.
RI: What do you think will be the next big thing in your industry this year?
Proving the relevance and acceptance of GDPR (privacy) rulings and people seeing the convenience benefits of a “Frictionless Society” outweighing their concerns as to potential privacy threats. This will increase rapidly the demand and deployment speed of implementing the technology.
