At the end of an autumnal English November where else would you want to be other than Twickenham Stadium, HQ of the ‘mighty’ England team and beloved home to thousands of rugby supporters.
Rugby Expo 2015 returned there and promised 2 days of in-depth seminars, workshops and talks from some of the brightest and best. Some of the subjects included - ‘How to make the most of the Rugby World Cup’, ‘Women in Rugby’ and ‘The Grass Roots Game.’
We were there to show off our CardioWall Pro-X and introduce it to the elite, community, education and grassroots clubs and players. As an inducement to get people playing we also had a couple of mini kegs full of Tribute (St Austell Brewery’s top product) to be won for the highest scores recorded.
Using a weighted, extra heavy rugby ball the players used our speed and reaction program ‘Chaser’ to test their skills - a crowd soon gathered around our booth as word spread that there was something interesting and new to see. In the end it was the efforts of a couple of players who really nailed the Pro-X and who even beat ‘our’ Lauren’s best score. There’s nothing like the thrill of competition to make a splash.
So what else was there? TRX training, a lighting company, some insurers, kid’s rugby, coffee and apparel. A mixed bunch. The one criticism we’d make was the exhibition was definitely the poor relation of the conference and suffered from being a little too unfocused - it would be great to have an area devoted to rugby fitness / performance - there must be sufficient interest / companies to make that real?
Overall we found the Expo useful and informative, if a little quieter than anticipated. Next year it’s in Coventry at the Wasp’s ground - will we be there? The jury’s out.
